Campus Caravan Vol. XXXVI, No. 12 Student Publication Wednesday, 12 April 1961 The Reda Troup Show was composed of three short dances together with the mein part of the program which was "The Bride of the Nile.” This was composed of three scenes. The first scene told a story of an Elgyptian girl who falls in love with a native boy and whose family is very strict and conservative. When her love affair becwnes known, her family decides to take revenge by killing her lover. They try to kill him once when he is among his friends but fail. With the fight between them the first scene comes to an end. The second scene starts with the girl knowing that her lover will be leaving shortly on a fishing trip. She goes to him just brfore he travels and bids him farewell and g:ives him her shawl as a souvenir. After leaving him her cousin enters with Thabet Tanahi Winner Of A1 Abram Scbolarsbip The Committee on Scholarships armounced this week that Thabet Tanahi editor in chief of the Campus Caravan, is the recipient of “A1 Ahram Scholarship for the best student in journalism.” The Caravan members with Reda dancers. Sitting are Mahmoud Reda, the first man-dancer and the troup's director, and one of the dancers. Caravan Board Visited Reda Troup By Sanaa Azmi At 9.30 p.m. on March 27th., the editorial board of the Campus Caravan invited Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lewis and Dr. Mildred Howard to the Reda Troup of the National Folklore Dances. G)ngratulations It is with pleasure that we announce the engagement of Miss Ayten Hey-kal (senior) to Mr. ifekya Reda, of Miss Sarnia Man-sour (Sophomore) to Mr. Semlr Sami, of Miss Lalla El Misslri (Junior) to Mr. Mustafa Saleh, and of Mr. Amir Sahhar to his cousin Mervat Srhhar, who signed their marriage contract on April 7. Mr. Z^lheed Ramlawi’s engagement was discovered by accident last week. Za-heed has hidden this news for two years. His fianc6 Slham El Janabl, lives now at Baghdad. Thabet Tanahi his band. They find their man and beat him. The third scene opens with the girl’s lover moaning and growning; thus it is apparent that he is not dead but rather badly Injured. A fisherman passes by, finds him and takes him out. Some time later his boat arrives at shore after a successful trip and girls come to receive their lovers. Everybody was present except him. She then realizes that he is dead when her cousin throws at her the shawl .'he had given him. She becomes very sad and goes to visit the piece where they used to meet. There she sleeps and dreams that she has been chosen by the Pharaoh as the Bride of the Nile, As she is deeply involved in the dream, she imconsclously throws herself in the river. (See page If) 79 Honor Students Seventy-nine students were placed on the Dean’s Honor Roll for the first semester 1960-1961. Of these 30 were Seniors, 20 Sophomores, 17 Juniors and 12 Preshmam. 339 students were enrolled in the Undergraduate Faculty during this semester. The following is a list of the honored students, ed with an asterisk were awarded High Honors. It is worthy to note that "A1 Ahram Scholarship, which is offered by the daily AJ Ahram, covers two semester tuition fee of a senior student with a professional sequence in Journalism. The recipient is the student who at the end of his Junior year is recommended by the head of the Journalism department, and approved by the Committee on Scholarships. The eminent winners of A1 Ahram Prize in the past five years were Mr. Nabll Khouri, the well known Lebanese journalist, who is now on a visit to Cairo; Miss Madiha Madfa’i (now Mrs. Nasser) who works as an announcer in the Arabic SecUon of the BBC; Sonia Abdel Nour, who works as an announcer in Cairo Television; Mr. All Mahmoud All, who works now as a photo editor to the AP news agency, and Miss Fadwa El Gindi, who joined the TV staff in Cairo.
